When I began photographing fishermen in eastern Long Island, my intention was to document a disappearing class of workers. After spending two years on land and sea with these men, I began to realize that the story was larger and inevitably more complicated. I've since become interested in the ways that fishing and the local fishing industry were just one part of a complicated set of relationships which together comprise the social and economic structure of the Hamptons. This project will grow into a larger one which will explain the context and history of the region.
